Religious Holidays and Their History
- Day of Remembrance of the Holy Martyrs Achindin, Pigasius, Aftony, Yelpidifor, and Anempodist
On November 2, the Orthodox Church honors the memory of five holy martyrs who lived in the 4th century and were high-ranking at the court of King Shapur II. After their Christian beliefs were discovered, they were tried and subjected to cruel torments, yet they remained faithful. During the tortures, miracles occurred that amazed witnesses and contributed to the spread of Christianity. Despite the king's sentence, the martyrs could not be killed by fire, and they were eventually executed.
Today, the day of the holy martyrs honors their fidelity and courage before God.
Prayers of the Day
