Christmas Eve December 24: main traditions, prayers and folk signs

Новорічна ніч 24 грудня: важливі звичаї, молитви та народні прикмети

On the eve of the Nativity of Christ, there is a special spiritual atmosphere. On December 24, the Orthodox Church celebrates Christmas Eve, when the faithful prepare for the birth of the Savior with anticipation of a miracle and joy.

On this day, the faithful complete the forty-day fast and gather for 'Rich Kutya', waiting for the star that will signal the beginning of the evening. This is a time for family unity, honoring the memory of the deceased and remembering the holy martyr Evgenia.

A prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ is a request for blessings, peace, and prosperity for home and Ukraine. Folk beliefs affirm that the weather on this day may predict future well-being: a clear sky promises a bountiful harvest, hoarfrost on trees — good fodder for livestock, and snow — a fruitful spring.
