Depreciation Leaders: The Car Models Losing Up to 72% of Their Value

Автомобілі, які втрачають до 72% своєї вартості: топ-лідери амортизації.

Study Reveals Car Depreciation in Ukraine

An American study by iSeeCars has identified the car models with the highest depreciation over a five-year period. This issue is particularly relevant for Ukrainians who import vehicles from the U.S., especially as Ukraine's tax exemptions for electric vehicle imports are set to expire on January 1, 2026. The analysis shows that some cars can lose as much as 72% of their original value, a crucial consideration for cost-conscious buyers.

By examining over 800,000 used car listings, iSeeCars pinpointed the models with the steepest value declines. Topping the list is the Jaguar I-Pace, which sheds 72.2% of its value, equating to roughly $52,000. In second place is the BMW 7 Series, depreciating by 67.1% ($65,000), followed by the Tesla Model S at 65.2% ($52,000).

Models with the Highest Value Loss

Additionally, the Maserati Ghibli loses over $70,000 within five years. Other models showing significant depreciation include:

  • Infiniti QX80 (65%)
  • Maserati Ghibli (64.7%)
  • BMW 5 Series Hybrid (64.7%)
  • Nissan LEAF (64.1%)

On the Ukrainian market specifically, problematic models for resale value include the BMW X6, Volkswagen Tiguan, Lexus RX450h, and Cadillac Escalade.

It is also noteworthy that the cost of charging electric vehicles in Ukraine has risen to 30 hryvnias per 1 kWh, a factor that will likely influence future consumer choices alongside upfront purchase price.

This data could significantly impact the decisions of Ukrainians importing cars, especially in light of the changing regulations for electric vehicles.

The impending end of EV import incentives underscores the importance of choosing models that not only meet environmental standards but also hold their value on the secondary market. The rising cost of electricity for charging may further shift consumer preferences, prompting Ukrainians to make more financially prudent vehicle selections that align with their long-term budgets.
