Passengers planning to depart from Polish airports with pets can take advantage of this opportunity, but only if they comply with the established rules. Transportation must be agreed upon with the airline at the time of booking the ticket, as the number of animals on board is limited. InPoland reports.

Small dogs, cats, and ferrets can travel in the cabin of the airplane in a special carrier, as long as their total weight, including the container, does not exceed the limit set by the carrier. Large animals are usually transported in the cargo hold or as checked baggage—depending on the route and airline rules.

Transporting animals in Poland: what documents are needed

To fly, a complete set of documents is required. The requirements pertain to both the airline and veterinary legislation of the EU and Poland.

The animal must have:

  • a European veterinary passport

  • a valid rabies vaccination

  • a microchip for identification

  • a health certificate if required by the flight rules.

Before traveling, owners are advised to consult a veterinarian to check all documents and the health status of the pet.

Rules for flying with animals: what to consider at the airport

Polish airports provide conveniences for pet owners. In particular, at Kraków-Balice Airport, there are designated areas for walking dogs near the parking lots. This allows for preparation of the animal for the flight.

Passengers are advised to arrive at the airport early to go through all formalities and ensure the carrier meets international standards.

It is worth noting that on March 1st, Dubai airports ceased receiving and sending flights.
