War veterans in Ukraine may be entitled to pensions from 5500 to 16800 UAH depending on their category, length of service, or disability incurred through service. In 2025, the rules for pension calculation were updated to facilitate access to payments for defenders. This is indicated in the Ministry of Defense guide.
Who can receive war veteran pensions
The category of war veterans includes participants in combat actions (PCA), persons who participated in wars in other countries, and those who became disabled due to service.
What pensions can war veterans have
Pensions for them are divided into two main types:
- For length of service and disability. The pension for length of service depends on the duration of service: for 25 years, 65% of monetary provision is calculated, for each additional year, 3% is added, but not more than 70%. If the length of service is less than 25 years, the basic rate is 50% with an addition of 1% for each additional year, also up to 70%.
- Disability pensions are tied to the group: Group I – 100% monetary provision, Group II – 80%, Group III – 60%.
Minimum pension sizes for war veterans in 2025
- For persons with disability Group I: 16,847 UAH.
- Group II: 13,822 UAH.
- Group III: 9,478 UAH.
- Participants in combat actions and those affected by the Revolution of Dignity: 5,528 UAH (including allowances).
- Participants of World War II aged 85 and over: 16,847 UAH (as for Group I).
These amounts take into account allowances, increases, and additional pensions provided by law. In 2025, medical and social expert commissions (MSEC) were abolished, and health condition assessments for pension assignment are conducted by special expert teams, simplifying the process for injured soldiers.
