The Verkhovna Rada supported a draft law on police funding reform that is set to significantly change the principles of salary calculation. The document provides for new minimum salaries, seniority bonuses, and additional social guarantees for National Police employees. This is reported by Novyny.LIVE.
New police salaries tied to the minimum subsistence level
Draft law No. 6506-1 was adopted by the parliament on June 10. The document had been under consideration since 2022 and aims to enhance the social protection of law enforcement officers and make police service more attractive.
One of the main innovations is the establishment of a minimum salary for police officers at no less than ten minimum subsistence levels for working individuals.
As of January 1, 2026, the minimum subsistence level for working individuals is 3328 UAH. Accordingly, the minimum salary for a police officer should be no less than 33,280 UAH. This rule does not apply to cadets of specific educational institutions.
What will make up a police officer's salary
The new law establishes the main components of law enforcement funding.
The salary will include:
- official salary;
- salary for special rank;
- monthly bonuses and allowances;
- premiums;
- one-time additional payments.
In determining the amount of funding, the position, rank, length of service, level of qualification, working conditions, and the presence of academic degrees or titles will be taken into account.
What bonuses for seniority does the law provide
The document separately establishes a scale of monthly bonuses for length of service.
The amount of the allowance will range from 5% of the official salary for police officers with one year of service to 50% for those who have served more than 25 years.
The law also provides additional guarantees for employees performing official duties abroad. They will retain the right to receive funding in hryvnias and may receive additional rewards in foreign currency.
The authors of the legislative changes believe that the new wage system will help increase the prestige of the profession, strengthen the personnel potential of the police, and make the payment process more transparent.
At the same time, the new rules will not take effect immediately. The law will come into force only on January 1, 2027.
