Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that if Russian dictator Vladimir Putin rejects the proposals for a peace agreement, the US should increase sanctions and provide more weapons to Kyiv. The president said this to journalists on his way to the Netherlands, reports 'Glavcom'.

“If Putin keeps rejecting everything, there will be the turbulence we currently have on the plane. It is indeed happening now, but it is not as great compared to the war,” said Zelensky. According to him, if Putin destroys any diplomatic opportunities for peace, Ukraine will have to strengthen its economy and continue the fight.

The president emphasized that in case of refusal by Putin, the US must increase pressure through sanctions and provide Ukraine with more weapons. “I think this is a fair request from us,” he added, explaining that logic requires the United States to provide Ukraine with means of defense, such as air defense systems and long-range weaponry.

“If the Americans are ready to give security guarantees to Ukraine and apply strong guarantees in case of violation, then how is this different from the situation if Putin does not want to end? This is a fair request from me as president and from some European leaders,” Zelensky summarized.

It should be noted that German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius expressed skepticism about Russian dictator Vladimir Putin's readiness for peace.

“We have seen this happen more than once. Therefore, I would not be surprised if it happens the same way again. Although, of course, I hope for a different outcome,” Pistorius said regarding Putin’s readiness for peace.

Moreover, the leaders of the European Union and 10 European countries issued a joint statement following two days of peace negotiations between the US, Ukraine, and European partners. The document states that a plan for security guarantees for Ukraine has been agreed upon.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky insists on support from the US in case Russian President Putin refuses the peace agreements. He calls on the US to increase pressure on Russia through sanctions and to enhance the supply of weapons for Ukraine to defend against possible threats. These demands have become one of the key topics in the section of diplomatic confrontation with Russia, the media reports. This point may be strengthened by the appearance of a joint statement from the EU leaders and ten European countries discussing the security assurance plan for Ukraine following negotiations involving the US.
