What Would Happen if Earth Halts Its Orbit Around the Sun?

Should Earth abruptly cease its orbital motion around the Sun, the outcome would be disastrous. Scientific measurements show that Earth travels around the Sun at approximately 30 kilometers per second. Without this velocity, our planet would no longer maintain its stable orbit and would begin a fatal descent toward the Sun. This fall would take about 64 days, ultimately leading to Earth's destruction.

Why Would This Lead to Catastrophe?

The reason Earth would spiral into the Sun lies in the absence of absolute rest in the universe. Moreover, the entire Solar System itself moves at a speed even greater than Earth's orbital velocity. According to Einstein's theory of relativity, the faster an object moves, the slower time passes for it relative to slower-moving objects. This concept was experimentally confirmed in 1971 when atomic clocks flown on airplanes showed time dilation effects caused by speed.

Therefore, if Earth's orbital speed suddenly dropped to zero, it would inevitably fall into the Sun, resulting in the planet’s demise. This scenario highlights how crucial motion and velocity are in maintaining cosmic stability.
