The bronze medalist of Eurovision-2024 (together with Jerry Heil), singer Alyona Alyona, shared some restrictions in collaboration with 'Public Broadcasting', which organizes the song contest in Ukraine. This became known from her message on social media, quoted by 'Hlavkom'.
According to Alyona Alyona, while preparing for Eurovision-2024, she and Jerry Heil tried to involve a talented backing vocalist in their team. However, they were refused because this girl participated in the 'Children's New Wave' contest held in the occupied territory of Yalta in 2014. The participant represented Ukraine, was a minor, and decisions were made by her parents back then.
“And this is very strange, because she grew up, sings in Ukrainian, and since coming of age, has not gone anywhere or performed at similar events. However, she was not allowed (to be taken to Eurovision-2024. - 'Hlavkom'),” emphasized Alyona Savrienko (the real name of the rapper).
Effort to change the National Selection rules for Eurovision
The singer officially addressed 'Public Broadcasting' with a letter and submitted an application to participate in the National Selection. According to current rules, she, as well as all artists who have performed in Russia or occupied territories since 2014 and in Belarus after February 2024, cannot be part of the Ukrainian delegation. It is likely that the application from Olya Polyakova will not be accepted by 'Public Broadcasting'. However, this initiative by the performer has sparked widespread discussion both in the music industry and in society.
During the preparation for Eurovision-2024, singer Alyona Alyona was denied the attribution of a backing vocalist due to her past participation in a contest in the occupied territory, which led to a discussion on the rules of the Ukrainian National Selection.
