Grand Theft Auto 6 is forecast by Sensor Tower to pull in close to 25 million pre-orders, totaling about $2 billion, before it goes on sale. The pre-order window opened on June 25. Its release is slated for November 19 of this year on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. A Netflix showcase on August 27 is expected to share further information.
Expectations and Market Dynamics
Karl Kontus, senior vice president of gaming analytics at Sensor Tower, told GI.biz that the projected pre-order revenue would be enough to cover development costs and the bulk of marketing spend. He also predicted that most pre-orders would arrive during the final week before release. Kontus highlighted the $100 expanded edition of GTA VI, which packs in extra content such as vehicles, weapons, and a custom tuning workshop, making it a more compelling option. The standard edition, meanwhile, is priced at $80.
Take-Two Interactive has already reported record-breaking pre-orders without disclosing exact numbers. Rockstar Games has not revealed GTA VI's budget, although Strauss Zelnick has said the expanded edition is proving more popular with consumers. A full-fledged marketing push is also anticipated, kicking off with the Netflix reveal. Grand Theft Auto VI is regarded as one of the most highly anticipated releases of 2026.
Such lofty pre-order projections underscore the massive excitement around a game that is already a cultural touchstone. The August 27 Netflix event could drive anticipation even higher and further boost demand. A strong GTA VI launch may significantly bolster the financial performance of Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive in the coming years, building on their track record and player loyalty. The title has the potential to become one of the most profitable ventures the video game industry has ever seen. Few series in any medium generate this kind of cultural anticipation.
As anticipation builds for the upcoming release, fans are eagerly awaiting the upcoming showcase on Netflix scheduled for August 27, which promises to unveil more details about GTA 6. This event could significantly heighten pre-order interest, further driving sales as the launch date approaches.
