Andriy Yarmolenko Sets a New Benchmark

Ukrainian footballer Andriy Yarmolenko has set a new all-time record for the most consecutive successful penalty kicks, surpassing the previous mark held by Vasil Gigiadze. Yarmolenko’s streak of 21 flawless spot-kicks now stands as the best in the sport, eclipsing Gigiadze’s 20-year-old record of 19 converted penalties.

Breakthrough in the 2025/26 Season

During the 2025/26 campaign, Yarmolenko successfully converted three penalties, which pushed him past the milestone. Gigiadze’s record had remained unbroken since 2006. Meanwhile, Maksym Tretyakov, who has scored 12 consecutive penalties, began his streak while playing for Chornomorets, continued it at Oleksandriya, and last season featured for Obolon.

This achievement highlights not only Yarmolenko’s individual excellence but also the growing importance of penalties in modern football. A player’s ability to calmly and accurately take spot-kicks can dramatically influence a team’s performance in high-pressure matches. Given how long Gigiadze’s record stood, Yarmolenko’s feat is a testament to his consistency and technical skill in this critical area of the game.
