Ukrainian Ultradistance Swimming Record Achieved
On September 20th, ultramarathon swimmer Andriy Savitsky completed a solo 100-kilometer open water swim at Neberezh Lake in Kyiv, setting a new Ukrainian national record for the fastest time in this category. He finished the grueling distance in 38 hours, 16 minutes, and 15 seconds. This incredible feat was officially recognized by the National Register of Records of Ukraine.
Andriy Savitsky, a Master of Sports in swimming in Ukraine, boasts extensive experience and numerous accolades. Among his achievements are multiple podium finishes in Ukrainian championships, a national relay championship title, and victory at the 6th Baltic Games. He also earned a prize in Ukraine's inaugural 50-kilometer open water pentamarathon. Savitsky's officially documented 100-kilometer swim marks the first time such a distance has been formally recorded in Ukraine, underscoring the significance of this accomplishment.

Previously, Mikhail Romanishin swam a similar distance, but without an official record application. Savitsky’s achievement opens a new chapter in Ukrainian sports, reflecting the growing popularity of open water swimming and ultramarathon events. Recently, from January 31 to February 1, Kyiv hosted a 24-hour pool swim organized by the Crazy Challenge team. Additionally, the veterans’ team from Ukraine’s Defense Forces, "Iron Will," completed a 2-kilometer open water swim at the international OCEANMAN DUBAI event in the Arabian Gulf.
