Introducing the Personal Finance Feature
Anthropic has unveiled a new Personal Finance capability within its chatbot Claude, empowering users to link their bank accounts and cards for detailed expense tracking, payment monitoring, and balance checks. This feature became available in beta on November 5, 2026, exclusively for Claude Pro, Max, and Ultra subscribers in the United States.
Key Functions of Personal Finance
Powered by the Plaid service for secure account connections, Claude can provide monthly spending summaries, compare expenses across different periods, and identify recurring payments. For instance, the chatbot analyzed a monthly expenditure totaling $4,309.37 (approximately 189,000 UAH), with rent and utilities comprising the largest budget portion. Food and beverages accounted for $1,024.51 (around 45,000 UAH).
Claude also detects unusual transactions, duplicate charges, unexpected fees, and bills with gradually rising amounts. It generates weekly spending charts, payment calendars, and personalized dashboards. Additionally, the chatbot explains financial concepts such as Annual Percentage Rate (APR) and calculates interest paid on loans. However, Anthropic restricts Claude’s access to viewing financial data only; it cannot perform money transfers, manage accounts, or handle investments.
When linking accounts, users authenticate directly through Plaid, granting necessary permissions themselves. Claude does not receive bank passwords but accesses limited information including bank name, account type, last four digits of the account number, balance, credit limit, and up to two years of transaction history. Users can disconnect their accounts at any time to revoke Claude’s access.
Anthropic emphasizes that conversations within the Personal Finance section are excluded from training its AI models. Since Claude may occasionally provide incorrect information, users are advised to verify critical financial details with their banks. The feature is not intended to deliver investment advice. Going forward, Anthropic plans to collaborate with licensed professionals and regulated financial institutions to support users facing complex financial decisions. To enhance this functionality, the company is inviting partnerships with banks, wealth management firms, and other financial market participants.
Anthropic’s launch of the Personal Finance tool could greatly simplify personal money management by offering users deeper insights into their spending habits and financial behavior.
