Ex-SBU investigator sentenced to 9 years: why Hlivynskyi was convicted

The Appellate Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court confirmed the sentence of former senior investigator of the Security Service of Ukraine in Odesa region Serhiy Hlivynskyi. For extorting and receiving a bribe of $80,000, he will have to spend nine years in prison and lose all his property assets. Hlivynskyi attempted to influence the lifting of compulsory measures, cancellation of arrest and blocking of bank accounts of a US citizen.



He will also be prohibited from serving in law enforcement agencies for three years. He was detained on the spot during the reading of the verdict in court. The National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption found signs of illegal enrichment amounting to more than 27.7 million hryvnias for him, his family members, and an acquaintance.



The Ukrainian Anti-Corruption Court confirmed the sentence of the former senior investigator of the SBU in the bribery case. The court also noted that signs of illegal enrichment were found, indicating serious violations in the activities of the former official and his entourage.
