Meeting of Viktor Lyashko with the Japanese Ambassador
The Minister of Health of Ukraine, Viktor Lyashko, met with the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Japan to Ukraine, Masashi Nakagome, who is concluding his diplomatic mission in Ukraine. During the meeting, the parties summarized their cooperation in the healthcare sector and discussed further development of the partnership.
Viktor Lyashko expressed gratitude to the Government of Japan, the Japanese people, and personally to Masashi Nakagome for their systematic support of Ukraine. With the support of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Ukrainian medical institutions received:
- modern diagnostic, surgical, and rehabilitation equipment;
- specialized transportation.
The total value of medical equipment transferred to Ukrainian institutions within the framework of cooperation with Japan exceeds 30 million US dollars.
Additionally, Ukrainian medical professionals are undergoing training in Japan, particularly in rehabilitation for patients with spinal injuries and emergency response. In 2024, a Memorandum was signed between the Ministries of Health of Ukraine and Japan, defining key areas of interaction, such as:
- development of medical services;
- training of personnel;
- public health;
- digitalization;
- pharmaceuticals;
- implementation of modern medical technologies.
Further Development of Cooperation
During the meeting, topics were discussed regarding the implementation of joint initiatives aimed at:
- strengthening the material and technical base of medical institutions;
- developing rehabilitation;
- enhancing the capacity of the healthcare system.
New areas of cooperation were also outlined, including:
- restoration and modernization of medical infrastructure;
- rehabilitation;
- training of medical personnel;
- digitalization;
- implementation of modern medical technologies.
Thanks to such cooperation, Ukraine has the opportunity to improve the quality of medical services and enhance the training level of medical specialists, which, in turn, will positively affect the overall state of healthcare in the country.
