Introducing Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4
On September 10 at 10:28 AM, Apple revealed its latest smartwatch, the Apple Watch Series 12, packed with new features including a pioneering audio intelligence system designed to monitor conversations. This innovative function enables users to listen for and capture key phrases during discussions. By double-tapping the Digital Crown, users can access a transcript of the previous 15 seconds of dialogue. After the conversation ends, Siri can generate a brief summary of the exchange.
Importantly, the audio intelligence operates entirely on-device using the new S11 chip, ensuring that no audio files are stored externally. This capability is scheduled to become available in 2026 and requires an iPhone 16 or later with Apple Intelligence enabled. However, due to legal restrictions, this feature will not be available within the European Union.
Enhanced Features and Upgrades in Apple Watch Series 12
The Series 12 also boasts an upgraded sensor array, featuring a larger ECG electrode and bigger photodiodes in the PPG sensor, which together enhance heart rate accuracy. The watch now supports background song recognition through Shazam and includes new sound detection abilities to identify noises such as:
- baby crying,
- doorbells,
- sirens,
- alarms.
Alongside this, Apple introduced the Apple Watch Ultra 4, equipped with the powerful S11 processor, revamped health sensors, and a larger battery. Sales for the Ultra 4 will begin on September 18. The device comes in black and natural titanium finishes. Its battery supports up to two days of regular use, up to 18 hours during active workouts with GPS and heart rate monitoring, and can last as long as 45 hours in extended battery mode.
Apple describes these new models as the "most accurate devices in their class."
