Introducing the Latest AirPods 5 Wireless Earbuds
Apple has revealed the AirPods 5, the newest iteration following the AirPods 4 released in 2024. Pre-orders began immediately after the announcement, with official sales commencing on September 18, 2026. These earbuds feature a redesigned acoustic setup that delivers improved sound quality alongside advanced adaptive active noise cancellation (ANC). Apple claims that this generation reduces external noise by 50% more effectively compared to its predecessor.
Key Features of AirPods 5
The AirPods 5 introduce touch controls on the stem, enabling users to adjust volume through simple swipe gestures. Battery life with ANC enabled extends up to 5 hours—an hour longer than the previous model. Included is a wireless charging case compatible with Apple Watch chargers and Qi-standard wireless pads. The base AirPods 5 model is priced at $129, while the upgraded version with the wireless charging case and longer battery life costs $149. Notably, these prices are $30 less than the last generation.
“These earbuds feature the best-in-class open-type active noise cancellation,” Apple stated.
Both variants will be available for purchase starting September 18, 2026.
This release highlights Apple’s commitment to remaining competitive in the wireless earbud market, which has seen significant growth and increased competition from various brands. With its new capabilities and more accessible pricing, Apple aims to attract new customers while continuing to satisfy loyal users. The enhanced noise cancellation performance is expected to be a decisive factor for consumers choosing between Apple and alternative options.
