Lengthy Deliberations Over Justice Minister Candidate

David Arakhamia, head of the 'Servant of the People' parliamentary faction, has stated that the selection process for a new Justice Minister is ongoing and could take up to three months to finalize. He attributed the delay to changes in the list of potential candidates.

"We have a lengthy discussion process underway; there have been changes in the candidates for Justice Minister. As for the Minister of Digital Transformation, that hasn't even been discussed yet," Arakhamia said.
He added that over the past seven years, ministers have sometimes worked in an acting capacity for extended periods without it affecting their performance. This appointment is part of broader government formation efforts in Ukraine.

Parliament Establishes Strategic Fuel Reserve

In a separate development, the Ukrainian parliament has approved the creation of a strategic reserve for oil and petroleum products. While Ukraine imports a significant portion of its fuel, there is currently no shortage in the country.

The parliamentary Committee on Energy and Housing Services linked recent domestic fuel price increases to global oil price fluctuations, geopolitical risks, and currency exchange factors.

"The recent rise in fuel costs is associated with: fluctuations in world oil prices, geopolitical risks, and the currency factor," the committee stated in a comment.

Arakhamia also emphasized that the parliament's immediate priority is passing legislation required to unlock a $90 billion International Monetary Fund (IMF) program.

"So, I think this [Justice Minister] issue will definitely be resolved within two or three months, but right now the main issue is precisely voting on those laws we need to unlock these $90 billion, the IMF program, and all the rest," he noted.

The dual parliamentary actions concerning the ministerial appointment and the fuel reserve highlight key legislative efforts impacting Ukraine's governance and economic stability. Resolving the IMF funding is critical for the nation's financial framework amid ongoing challenges. The current absence of a fuel shortage, despite price pressures, indicates a degree of market stability, though it underscores the need to monitor global energy trends closely.
