Argentina Announces Citizenship-by-Investment Scheme Launching in Late 2026

Argentina is set to roll out a new citizenship-by-investment program starting in the fourth quarter of 2026. This initiative offers two pathways for investors to obtain Argentine citizenship:

  • A non-refundable contribution to the national treasury;
  • Purchase of government bonds.

According to Argentina’s Economy Minister Luis Caputo, the first option requires a payment of $350,000, while the second involves acquiring specially issued government bonds valued at $800,000.

Additional Fees for Family Members

Family members are subject to separate investment amounts. Spouses and children aged 18 to 25 can obtain citizenship by contributing $100,000 each, whereas children under 18 require a $25,000 payment. Therefore, a family of four could secure Argentine citizenship with a total investment of $500,000.

All applicants will undergo rigorous background checks, including source of funds verification and screening against terrorism financing and money laundering risks.

This program aims to attract foreign currency inflows to help Argentina manage its substantial external debt. Projections indicate the initiative could generate up to $2.5 billion for the country. Luis Caputo highlighted that

“by the end of the year, Argentina will become the first South American nation to implement a full citizenship-by-investment system.”

Holding an Argentine passport grants visa-free access to more than 140 countries worldwide, enhancing the program’s appeal to global investors.

The launch of this citizenship-by-investment program reflects Argentina’s strategic effort to boost foreign investment and stabilize its economy amid high external debt pressures. Attractive terms for investors are expected to provide significant financial resources. Moreover, Argentina’s move may inspire other nations in the region to explore similar programs to attract international capital.
