Archimandrite Ioasaf is being suspended from the duties of the abbot of the Holy Cross Exaltation Men's Monastery in the city of Starokostiantyniv due to the death of a soldier within the territory of the church. This was reported by 'Graham' referring to the Khmelnytsky eparchy of the UOC-MP.
“Due to the tragic incident that occurred on August 3, 2025, at the Holy Cross Exaltation Men's Monastery in the city of Starokostiantyniv, which resulted in the death of a soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, during the investigative actions carried out by law enforcement authorities, Archimandrite Ioasaf (Horkavchuk) is suspended from the duties of the abbot of the Holy Cross Exaltation Men's Monastery in the city of Starokostiantyniv until all the circumstances are clarified,” it is stated in the announcement.
It is noted that during the period of conducting investigative actions and clarifying all circumstances, the management of the monastery will be carried out by the head of the Khmelnytsky eparchy of the Moscow church.
The death of a soldier: circumstances of the incident
We remind you that yesterday, on August 3, the police received a report that a man had died on Ivan Fyodorov Street on the territory of the monastery. At the same time, information was disseminated on social networks that a soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine had been killed at the UOC-MP monastery in Starokostiantyniv.
The body of the 51-year-old man was sent for forensic examination, which showed that the cause of death was acute pancreatitis. Based on this fact, information has been entered into the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations under Article 115 with the annotation “Natural death.” Currently, law enforcement is establishing all circumstances of the incident.
