Arctic Cold Snap in Ukraine
An Arctic cold snap is coming to Ukraine, leading to a drop in temperatures during the New Year holidays. According to forecaster Natalia Didenko, on December 30, 2023, temperatures are expected to be between -2 and -6 degrees Celsius at night, while during the day, temperatures will fluctuate from 1 to 3 degrees Celsius above zero.
The peak of the cold snap will occur on December 31 and January 1. On these days, night temperatures will drop to -7 to -14 degrees Celsius, while during the day, temperatures are expected to range from -2 to -7 degrees Celsius below zero. In the western regions and in Zhytomyr, Vinnytsia, and Chernihiv regions, stormy gusts of wind up to 15-20 meters per second may occur. This could complicate weather conditions and affect holiday events.
Expected Warming
From January 3, warming is forecasted in Ukraine, which may change the cold weather to milder temperatures. Thus, Ukrainians will have the opportunity to celebrate the New Year in an Arctic cold snap, which will bring a significant drop in temperature.
A drop in temperature during the New Year holidays may affect traditional celebrations and activities of Ukrainians. Considering the possible stormy gusts of wind, event organizers may need to take additional measures to ensure the safety of participants.
The expected warming after the holidays may become a positive moment for the revival of outdoor activities and an improvement in the overall mood of the population during the period after the New Year holidays.
