Overnight Drone Assault Targets Zaporizhzhia
A series of drone attacks on the Zaporizhzhia region overnight on February 6 resulted in civilian casualties and widespread power outages. In the town of Vilniansk, a private home was completely destroyed, killing a married couple—a 49-year-old man and a 48-year-old woman. During the same night in Zaporizhzhia city, a teenager was wounded in a residential area. In total, approximately 12,000 subscribers across Zaporizhzhia Oblast were left without electricity. The region has been a frequent target since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion, given its strategic location.
Recent Attacks in the Region
These strikes follow similar incidents in late January. On the night of January 26, numerous drone attacks in Zaporizhzhia and the surrounding area caused fires and damaged apartment buildings, shattering windows and scarring building facades. Another assault occurred on the night of January 22, when drones hit a parking lot near a shopping center and damaged houses in a residential district, injuring one person.
These events underscore the persistent danger faced by residents of Zaporizhzhia and its outskirts, highlighting the severe consequences of drone warfare on civilian areas.
The situation in Zaporizhzhia and nearby districts remains tense due to the constant threat of drone attacks. While such strikes occur regularly, their consequences—including loss of life and critical infrastructure damage—continue to inflict serious social and economic hardship on the local population. The ongoing crisis demands urgent measures to ensure civilian safety and restore essential services like electricity.
