Drone Attack in Odesa Region
On December 18, a drone attack occurred in the Odesa region, resulting in the complete halt of traffic on the M-15 Odesa – Reni highway. This complicated access to border points, as restrictions are in place on the section within the village of Mayaky, where a critical infrastructure facility was damaged. One of the drones hit a bridge near Mayaky, leading to tragic consequences, including the death and injury of children.
Situation in the Region
According to the announcement, the Odesa region is currently in a state of emergency at the national level. Vehicle traffic on the M-15 highway has been completely stopped, complicating access to the border crossing points with Moldova. Although these points formally remain open, transport cannot reach them due to the effects of the strike on the infrastructure.
Odesa regional administration representative Ihor Perehniak noted that 'transport physically cannot reach' the crossing points and urged citizens to refrain from traveling towards the border.
The situation remains under control, but the need for caution and avoidance of travel is relevant.
This drone attack emphasizes the ongoing threat from unmanned vehicles used in the conflict and the impact of such incidents on the daily lives of citizens. As the Odesa region is an important transport hub, the closure of key routes can lead to further complications in ensuring the safety and mobility of the population. The situation requires attention from state structures for a swift response to such threats and to ensure stability in the region.
