Drone Strike Knocks Out Power in Four Cities Across Occupied Crimea

Energy Grid Collapse in Crimea

A major failure struck the energy system in occupied Crimea overnight on June 24, following a drone attack. The cities of Sevastopol, Simferopol, Yalta, Alushta, and Feodosia, along with the Kirovsky and Sovetsky districts, were left without electricity. While occupation authorities in Sevastopol claimed to have shot down 70 drones, the infrastructure still sustained damage.

The assault caused severe repercussions. In the Gagarinsky district, debris from a drone hit a multi-story residential building, igniting a gas boiler receiver. Several apartment blocks suffered broken windows and damaged balconies. Seven private homes experienced localized fires, punctured roofs, and facade damage. Two people were injured: one with shrapnel wounds to the leg, and another with barotrauma.

Aftermath of the Attack

Around 4:00 AM, the Sevastopol electrical substation was struck six to seven times, destroying its main transformer. This substation serves as the city's key energy hub. The company Krymenergo reported technological disruptions to the power grid. As a result, suburban train services on the Saky–Yevpatoria and Yevpatoria–Saky routes were temporarily suspended.

Power has been partially restored in Inkerman, Kacha, Orlovka, Andriivka, Orlyne, and parts of Crimea's southern coast. However, residents in the Leninsky and Gagarinsky districts of Sevastopol will remain without electricity until at least evening. The drone attack has created serious challenges for the region's energy infrastructure, demanding urgent action.

Ukrainian defense forces carried out a series of strikes on military, fuel, and logistics targets, with impacts also recorded near Kerch, Feodosia, and Sevastopol. Reports indicate that a bridge over the North Crimean Canal was destroyed in the attack.

This attack highlights the significant vulnerability of Crimea's energy grid, which could affect local residents' daily lives and the occupying forces' military capabilities.

If such strikes continue, the power supply situation may deteriorate further, requiring Russian occupation authorities to take urgent steps to restore stability in the region. At the same time, these actions by Ukrainian forces may signal increased military activity on the peninsula, potentially shifting the balance of power in this strategically vital area.

The recent drone strike has not only disrupted power in multiple cities but also raised concerns about the region's fuel supply. As the situation unfolds, further details about the impact on Sevastopol's energy and fuel resources are emerging.
