Strike on Dnipro
In the early hours of April 26, the Russian military launched a drone attack on the city of Dnipro. Several explosions were heard across the city as air defense forces attempted to intercept incoming threats. Residents captured footage of one Shahed drone being shot down. A fire broke out on the left bank of the Dnipro River following the assault, complicating rescue operations.
Russian forces carried out waves of attacks on the city for over 20 hours, striking residential areas with missiles and drones. According to Oleksandr Hanzha, head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration, the death toll from the strikes has climbed to eight, with 49 people wounded. Emergency workers continue operations at the site of the overnight attack on a residential block, where another body was recovered from the rubble of a destroyed four-story building.
Second Strike and Humanitarian Toll
Russian troops also launched a second attack on the same residential district. Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported four fatalities nationwide from the overnight assault. In Dnipro, the bodies of two victims were pulled from the wreckage of a building in the morning. Local Telegram channels provided updates on the events in Dnipro.
This attack on Dnipro is part of an ongoing escalation of hostilities in Ukraine, stemming from the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. The explosions in residential neighborhoods, resulting in numerous civilian casualties, highlight the war’s humanitarian impact and the region’s precarious situation. Authorities continue working to ensure safety and provide aid to victims, while the international community monitors and responds to developments.
The recent escalation in Dnipro is part of a broader pattern of aggression, as Russian forces have intensified their bombardments across the Dnipropetrovsk region. This increase in attacks has resulted in significant civilian casualties and destruction.
