February 12th Attack on Kyiv Leaves Nearly 2,600 Buildings Without Heating

Атака на Київ 12 лютого залишила майже 2,600 будівель без опалення.

Kyiv Targeted in February 12th Strike

A Russian military attack on Kyiv during the night of February 12th damaged critical infrastructure, cutting off heating to nearly 2,600 apartment buildings. Significant damage was recorded at three separate sites in the Dnipro and Darnytskyi districts of the Ukrainian capital. This assault is part of a wider Russian campaign targeting energy systems, particularly during the harsh winter months.

In the Darnytskyi district, debris from an unmanned aerial vehicle damaged the facade of a multi-story building, with the drone's jet engine found inside an apartment on the top floor. Two people sustained injuries as a result of the attack.

Affected Districts

The following districts have buildings without heating:

  • Desnianskyi
  • Dniprovskyi
  • Pecherskyi
  • Solomianskyi

Specifically, over 1,100 buildings in the Desnianskyi and Darnytskyi districts were already without heating due to previous shelling. Critical damage to the Darnytska Thermal Power Plant currently makes it impossible to supply heating. Municipal utility crews are working to restore heat to the affected areas.

The situation in Kyiv underscores the vulnerability of essential services during wartime. Leaving a large number of homes without heating in winter poses severe risks to residents, especially the elderly and families with young children. Restoring the heat supply is a priority for city services, which face significant challenges related to safety and the resources required to repair the damaged infrastructure.
