Child Injured and Fire at Monastery: Overnight Attack Hits Kyiv Region

Діти постраждали, а монастир зазнав пожежі: Нічна атака в Київській області.

Strike on Kyiv and Surrounding Area

In the early hours of June 15, Russian forces launched a combined assault on Kyiv and the Kyiv region, deploying attack drones alongside cruise and ballistic missiles. The attack left three people wounded, including a minor. Mykola Kalashnyk, head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, provided details on the aftermath.

In the Kyiv region, casualties were reported in the Boryspil district, where a man suffered lacerations to his foot and a woman sustained a concussion. A boy born in 2011 was diagnosed with an acute stress reaction. All victims received on-site medical care. Damage was recorded across five districts, which are:

  • Brovary
  • Vyshhorod
  • Fastiv
  • Bucha
  • Boryspil

In the Brovary district, a multi-story residential building, three cars, and warehouse facilities were hit. The Vyshhorod district saw damage to a private homestead. A fire broke out in a private home in the Fastiv district, and a vehicle was also damaged. The Bucha district reported damage to storage facilities, while in Boryspil, a private residence was affected.

Within Kyiv itself, damage and fires were recorded in the Obolon, Solomianka, Pechersk, Holosiiv, Desna, and Shevchenko districts. Notably, a fire ignited on the roof of the Dormition Cathedral within the grounds of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra (Monastery of the Caves). Overall, the attack damaged residential buildings, warehouses, infrastructure facilities, and power lines. This latest strike underscores the ongoing threat to civilian areas amid the war.

Impact on Public Safety

The assault on Kyiv and the region highlights the persistently volatile security situation in Ukraine, driven by Russia's aggressive actions. These events underscore the vulnerability of both civilian infrastructure and the population during wartime. While authorities and emergency services strive to respond swiftly to such incidents, each attack introduces fresh challenges for ensuring public safety and rebuilding damaged assets.

The recent assault on Kyiv is part of a broader pattern of escalating violence, as evidenced by another recent attack that affected critical infrastructure in the region.
