Bus Crash Reported in Lviv Region

A serious accident occurred in the village of Liubyntsi, Lviv Region, at approximately 8:00 AM on January 17, 2026. The Setra bus, which was traveling from Vienna back to Kyiv, veered off the road after the 59-year-old driver lost control. The vehicle mounted the roadside, crashed through a metal guardrail, and collided with a tree.

There were 25 passengers on board at the time of the crash. Nine people required medical attention, with seven of them being transported to a hospital for treatment. Law enforcement officers are currently at the scene investigating the precise circumstances of the collision. This route is a major international corridor connecting Ukraine with Central Europe.

Recent Incidents on Regional Roads

This crash follows another fatal accident on January 11, 2026, near Krakovets. In that incident, a Volvo truck collided with a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter bus, resulting in the death of a 34-year-old female passenger. These consecutive events have brought renewed scrutiny to road safety standards in the region.

The recurring nature of such accidents underscores an urgent need for enhanced transport safety measures and stricter enforcement. Frequent road incidents highlight the importance of implementing updated safety protocols and improving driver training programs to reduce both the frequency and severity of collisions. Authorities are being called upon to address these systemic issues to prevent future tragedies on Ukraine's highways.
