Emergency Power Outages in Ukraine: What is Happening in the Energy System on November 20

On November 20, 2023, emergency power outages were introduced in Ukraine due to a complex situation in the energy system caused by the aftermath of missile and drone attacks. Emergency power outages affected most regions of the country, and the current blackout schedules are not in effect.

Official statements were made by the companies Ukrenergo and DTEK, which indicated the reasons for the restrictions related to the attacks on energy facilities. Energy workers are actively working on restoring stable electricity supply. The cancellation of emergency outages is only possible after the situation in the energy system stabilizes.

Consumers are urged to use electricity sparingly. Experts also recommend having supplies:

  • water
  • non-perishable food
  • medications
  • power banks
  • alternative lighting sources

to be prepared for possible extended outages. It is recommended to follow the messages from regional distribution system operators for up-to-date information on the electricity supply situation.

Emergency outages are a necessary measure to conserve resources and ensure the safety of the energy infrastructure. It is important for consumers to follow the recommendations of experts and be prepared for possible changes in electricity supply modes in the coming days.
