Australia to Host Commemorative Events for Ukraine War Anniversary

Австралія організує пам'ятні заходи на честь річниці війни в Україні.

Australia Plans Series of Events for War Anniversary

The Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations (AFUO) is organising a nationwide series of events to mark the fourth anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. These commemorations will include vigils, protests, film screenings, rallies, and a charity drive. The series will commence on February 12 with an address by Ukraine's Ambassador to Australia, Vasyl Myroshnychenko, at the National Press Club in Canberra.

Scheduled Events

Events are scheduled in the following cities:

  • Canberra
  • Sydney
  • Griffith
  • Melbourne
  • Brisbane
  • Hobart

The program features public events and awareness campaigns aimed at drawing attention to the situation in Ukraine and supporting those affected by the war. The AFUO is also organising a charity fundraiser named 'Warmth for Ukraine', conducted within the framework of an appeal by Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and with the support of the Ukrainian World Congress.

In a recent conversation with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed issues related to Russian strikes on Ukrainian cities, the diplomatic situation, and potential further steps for cooperation. The President also expressed condolences regarding the Bondi Beach terror attack, among whose victims were people of Ukrainian origin. Volodymyr Zelenskyy cautioned partners against holding separate negotiations with Russia without the participation of the United States and Ukraine.

“Australia is joining with Ukraine and the global Ukrainian community to mark the fourth anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion, holding commemorative events and protests in major cities.”

The AFUO is calling on Australians to join the events in support of Ukraine. The organisation emphasises the need to take to the streets to show support for Ukraine during this difficult time.

This series of events in Australia underscores the global solidarity with Ukraine amid the ongoing war. The participation of the Ukrainian community and support from Australians highlights the importance of international backing and attention to a conflict with serious implications for global security, not just for Ukraine. The events planned across various cities will also help raise awareness of the situation in Ukraine and remind people of the continued need for support for war victims.
