Bus Carrying Ukrainians Crashes Near Turkish Border, Killing Two and Injuring 16

Автобус з українцями потрапив у аварію поблизу турецького кордону, внаслідок чого двоє загинули і 16 отримали травми.

Deadly Bus Crash Occurs Near Bulgaria-Turkey Border Crossing

A bus carrying Ukrainian citizens has crashed near the Bulgaria-Turkey border, resulting in two fatalities and 16 injuries, including children. The vehicle rolled backward, struck a group of people, and overturned. The driver has been detained by law enforcement.

The accident occurred on the Burgas–Malko Tarnovo highway, close to a border crossing into Turkey. The bus, which was en route to Turkey, was carrying 37 passengers and two drivers, all of whom are Ukrainian nationals. The incident happened after the bus stopped due to running out of fuel. After the stop, passengers exited the vehicle and gathered behind it. At that moment, the bus suddenly began rolling backward, hitting the group, veering into a ditch, and overturning. This tragic event highlights the dangers of long-distance coach travel, which many Ukrainians rely on for international journeys.

Condition of the Injured and Ongoing Response

Some of the injured are reported to be in serious condition. Six victims were taken to hospitals in Burgas, while ten others were transported to an emergency care center in Malko Tarnovo. Children are among the wounded. An investigation is underway to determine the full circumstances of the incident, including details concerning the detained bus driver.

This crash follows another bus accident involving Ukrainian citizens that occurred on April 15 near the city of Łańcut in Poland. In that incident, a bus carrying six Ukrainians crashed into a barrier and overturned.

This tragedy underscores the urgent need to enhance safety standards for passenger transport, particularly for Ukrainian citizens traveling abroad.

These accidents in different countries point to potential systemic issues that require immediate attention and resolution to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

This tragic incident is not isolated, as just a few months ago, another bus carrying Ukrainian nationals was involved in a serious accident in Poland, resulting in injuries to several passengers. Such events raise significant concerns regarding the safety of long-distance travel for Ukrainians abroad. For a detailed account of the previous accident, click here.
