Ukrainian Pensioners Over 65 to Receive Automatic Benefit Recalculations

Автоматичне перерахування виплат для українських пенсіонерів старше 65 років.

Automatic Pension Recalculation for Retirees

Ukrainian retirees aged 65 and over will have their pensions recalculated automatically and remotely. This new procedure eliminates the need for in-person visits to the Pension Fund or the submission of applications, streamlining the process for this demographic. The rule applies to individuals receiving old-age, disability, survivor, or service-length pensions. This reform is part of a broader effort to modernize Ukraine's social safety net.

For non-working pensioners, the recalculation will occur automatically immediately upon turning 65. However, for those who are still employed or running a business, the adjustment will only be made after they cease their work activity. A key provision ensures that the minimum payment cannot fall below the current subsistence minimum for non-working individuals.

Age-Based Supplements for Pensioners

Under the new regulations, pensioners aged 70 to 75 will receive a monthly supplement of 300 hryvnias. Those between 75 and 80 years old will get 456 hryvnias, and retirees over 80 will receive an extra 570 hryvnias. These age supplements are calculated proportionally from the day the respective age is reached. It's important to note that if a birthday falls in the middle of a month, the full supplement is not paid for that entire month.

Furthermore, the supplement will not be granted if a pensioner's total pension already exceeds 10,340 hryvnias. These changes are designed to improve the financial well-being of many Ukrainian retirees by simplifying the benefit adjustment process. For context, these measures are particularly significant given the economic pressures faced by the country.

These pension system reforms are expected to significantly ease life for many Ukrainian retirees, especially older individuals who may face difficulties visiting government offices. The automation of the process also reflects a wider trend toward digitizing public services, a relevant step amid contemporary challenges. It is crucial that these innovations are supported by a corresponding information campaign so that pensioners can effectively take advantage of the new opportunities.

In addition to automatic recalculations for retirees over 65, the government is set to implement similar measures for working pensioners starting April 1, 2026. This initiative aims to ensure that those who continue to contribute to the economy can also benefit from streamlined pension adjustments.
