Over 60 Enemy Targets Neutralized by Brave1 Automated Turrets in Ukraine's Private Air Defense

Advancements in Automated Turrets and the Private Air Defense Initiative

The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, in collaboration with the defense innovation cluster Brave1, has been spearheading the development of automated turret systems that have become a crucial component of Ukraine’s air defense network. These advanced turrets have proven highly effective in intercepting hostile threats, including enemy drones, showcasing their vital role in countering aerial attacks. Under the framework of the private air defense (PAD) program, established by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine’s decree No. 1506 dated November 19, 2025, critical infrastructure companies are empowered to form their own air defense units to enhance protection for both personnel and facilities.

Brave1 began work on automated turrets in 2024, and these systems are now actively deployed by the Ukrainian Air Force. Within the scope of the private air defense project, these turrets have successfully eliminated more than 60 enemy targets, including dozens of hostile drones over Kyiv in just the past month. The Ministry of Defense highlighted that these turrets are engaged in countering threats such as the rocket-propelled “Banderoli” and “Geran-5” drones, confirming their integral role in Ukraine’s defensive operations.

Status of Private Air Defense Units

As of October 14, 2026, approximately 50 private air defense groups have been established and are actively fulfilling combat missions. These units have collectively destroyed over 60 aerial threats. Critical infrastructure enterprises across Ukraine have the option to create their own certified and trained PAD teams. The first of these private units has already completed successful operations, including the downing of several Russian drones in the Kharkiv region. Currently, six enterprises have operational PAD groups engaged in defense activities.

The progress in automated turret technology combined with the private air defense program represents a significant boost to Ukraine’s military resilience and security of vital infrastructure. Integrating private sector participation into national defense strategies introduces a new layer of protection critical to responding effectively to modern aerial threats. This approach underscores the importance of adopting innovative technologies within military frameworks to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities amid ongoing conflict challenges.

As the Ukrainian air defense capabilities expand, it is noteworthy that other private initiatives, such as Nova Poshta’s air defense teams have also achieved significant success, destroying over 60 Russian drones by October 2026. This highlights the increasing effectiveness of private air defense units in safeguarding critical infrastructure across the nation.
