Azerbaijan's Entry for Eurovision 2026
Singer Jiva will perform the song 'Just Go' for Azerbaijan at the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 in Vienna. The country's participant was chosen through an internal selection process organized by the broadcaster İTV. The submission window ran from December 15, 2025, to January 18, 2026, attracting 186 entries, of which 107 were submitted by local songwriters. Following a preliminary review, a commission shortlisted 18 candidates, which was later narrowed down to a final shortlist of three. The ultimate decision was made by a jury alongside a focus group, with the official announcement made on March 6, 2026.
The Musical Journey of Jiva
The Eurovision entry 'Just Go' was composed by Azerbaijani-American musician Fuad Javadov. Jiva's real name is Jamila Hashimova. Her music career began in 2003 when she placed second in the Baku Autumn competition. Since then, she has participated in numerous projects, including the 2007 television project Show Time and performed with the RAST Ensemble under the direction of Rashad Hashimov. Jiva has also performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival and was the vocalist for the band Hazz Band.
Since 2017, Jiva has focused on her solo career. In 2025, she won the television show The Voice of Azerbaijan. Previously, in 2011, she was a top-three finalist in Azerbaijan's national selection for Eurovision, which was ultimately won by Eldar Parviz oglu Gasimov and Nigar Aydin kizi Jamal (Ell/Nikki). Azerbaijan's return to the contest after a hiatus since 2014 makes Jiva's participation a significant moment for the nation's music scene. Eurovision remains one of the world's most-watched non-sporting events, offering a major platform for artists.
Selecting Jiva for Eurovision 2026 highlights Azerbaijan's return to the international music competition after a long absence. This move may signal a revitalization of cultural outreach and a desire to re-establish a presence on the European stage. With her experience across various musical events and competitions, Jiva could bring a fresh sound and approach to the performance, potentially boosting Azerbaijan's chances. The song 'Just Go,' crafted by a talented composer, could also play a key role in shaping the country's image at the contest.
