Father of Eight Seriously Wounded in Combat, Doctors Fight to Save His Limb

Батько восьми дітей важко поранений під час бою, лікарі намагаються зберегти його кінцівку.

Treatment of Wounded Defender Oleksandr

In Dnipro, defender Oleksandr, a father of eight, is undergoing treatment for severe injuries sustained during a combat mission on the Pokrovsk front. He had served on the front lines near Pokrovsk for one month without rotation when his unit was attacked by drones. During this assault, Oleksandr suffered serious wounds, including a severe limb injury requiring urgent medical intervention.

His treatment is taking place at the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Clinical Hospital named after Ilya Mechnikov, where he has already endured four complex surgeries and received over two liters of blood. The hospital's General Director, Serhii Ryzhenko, stated that doctors are doing everything possible to restore function to the damaged limb.

"We will do everything so he can lift his children and walk them to school. The injuries are severe, but he is holding on courageously. We are practically rebuilding the bones," said Serhii Ryzhenko.

Oleksandr's Family and Hospital Initiatives

Oleksandr is the father of eight children: three daughters and five sons. Among them, his youngest son, Valentyn, is just two and a half years old. He recounted the circumstances of his mobilization, noting he did not have the documentation proving his status as a father of many children with him at the time: 'I was missing just one specific document on that day to exempt me from service. They simply took me, and that was it.' He also shared his concerns for his wife, who now manages countless responsibilities alone:

"My wife is a powerhouse!"

The names of Oleksandr's children are:

  • Valentyn
  • Vadym
  • Ihor
  • Ihnat
  • Valerii
  • Uliana
  • Myroslava
  • Arina

Serhii Ryzhenko has also proposed creating a Reproduction Center within the hospital for wounded servicemen, highlighting an effort to support soldiers during the most challenging times of their lives. Oleksandr's treatment continues, with doctors hopeful for a positive outcome. This case underscores the immense strain placed on military personnel and their families during the ongoing conflict. The mobilization of fathers from large families can occur without adequate state support, leaving spouses to shoulder tremendous burdens at home. The hospital's initiative for a Reproduction Center represents a significant step toward aiding injured veterans and their families in rebuilding their lives after the trauma of war.
