Commemorative Banknote Launch Announced
The Bank of Scotland has unveiled a limited-edition £20 banknote honoring Scotland national team midfielder Scott McTominay. Featuring his acrobatic overhead kick goal against Denmark during 2026 World Cup qualifying, the note captures a pivotal moment in Scottish football history. That strike proved decisive in a 4-2 home victory that secured Scotland's spot in the tournament.
Only 100 commemorative notes will be issued, with half going on sale to the public and the remaining 50 either raffled off or auctioned. All proceeds will benefit Crisis, a charity supporting homeless people across Scotland. The note was designed in collaboration with McTominay himself and brought to life by Scottish illustrator Katie Smith.
Scott McTominay's Achievements
McTominay, who joined Italian side Napoli in summer 2024 for €30.5 million, was named Player of the Year for the 2024/25 campaign. The midfielder has played 44 matches across all competitions this season, scoring 14 goals and providing four assists. Napoli claimed the Italian Super Cup and finished as Serie A runners-up.
Scotland has been drawn into Group C for the 2026 World Cup, alongside Brazil, Morocco, and Haiti. Their opening match is scheduled for June 13 in the Boston metropolitan area against Haiti.
