In Poland, they plan to simplify the process for receiving 800 Plus benefits: starting from the next calculation period, ZUS will be able to automatically continue payments if the family circumstances remain unchanged. Currently, parents need to submit a new application each year. InPoland reports on this here. Previously, the 800 Plus reform with automatic renewal of benefits was also discussed.

How they want to change the process for 800 Plus

The Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Policy of Poland has presented a draft of changes to the payment rules for public discussion. If family circumstances remain unchanged, ZUS will be able to renew the right to benefits for the next period based on the data it already has.

Currently, parents or guardians must submit a new application each year. According to the current rules, payments are assigned for the period from June 1 to May 31 of the following year. In 2026, the acceptance of applications for the new period began on February 1, and meeting the deadlines was important for the continuous payment of benefits. Separate information was provided about the application deadlines in 2026.

When parents will still need to contact ZUS

Automatic renewal will not abolish the obligation to inform ZUS about changes that may affect the family's right to benefits. In particular, this includes changes in residence or care circumstances for the child.

An application will also need to be submitted for the first time after the birth of a child or after the family returns to Poland. According to Deputy Minister Aleksandra Gajewska, the changes aim to reduce the number of repeat applications and the bureaucratic burden on parents.

The project envisages the launch of new rules in the next calculation period, but they still need to be approved before coming into force. It is also important for Ukrainian families in Poland to monitor the conditions for receiving 800 Plus: separate requirements apply to foreigners regarding residence, parents' work and children's education.
