Nationwide Petition Drive Launched to Support Pensioners
Batkivshchyna, the political party led by Yulia Tymoshenko, has announced a nationwide petition drive calling on Ukraine's president to raise the minimum pension to the official subsistence level. The party states that over 9 million pensioners currently receive payments below the legally mandated subsistence minimum of 7,241 UAH. At present, the minimum pension in Ukraine is only 2,595 UAH, a figure that has not kept pace with the rising cost of living.
Batkivshchyna's Proposed Measures
Yulia Tymoshenko emphasized that, by law, the subsistence minimum cannot be lower than 7,241 UAH.
"This is the amount below which payment is prohibited by the Constitution," stated Yulia Tymoshenko.Batkivshchyna has prepared amendments to the state budget and submitted a corresponding draft law. The proposal is to fund the pension increase by reallocating 174 billion UAH, which the party alleges is corruptly transferred from the state budget to the National Bank.
"We are removing 174 billion UAH that are corruptly transferred from the budget to the National Bank and then written off to commercial banks through fraudulent schemes. This will be enough to cover the minimum pension of 7,241 hryvnias for retirees," Tymoshenko noted. She urged citizens to support the initiative and participate in the signature collection to force a review of pension policy.
This campaign represents a continued effort by Batkivshchyna to advocate for the social protection of pensioners, aiming to highlight the critical issue of pensions that fail to meet basic living costs.
