The Bureau of Economic Security (BEB) of Ukraine has recorded a mass distribution of fake electronic letters supposedly coming from the agency. The messages require businesses to provide financial and incorporation documents. This is reported by BEB.

Fake letters from BEB are sent to businesses

According to BEB, fraudsters use external email addresses and send messages to companies, institutions, and organizations. The letters mention a supposed documentary check of the enterprise.

The messages also demand various documents and suggest opening attached files.

Such letters may contain:

  • archive files or attachments;

  • fake official forms;

  • made-up outgoing numbers and names of employees;

  • contact information unrelated to BEB.

The agency emphasizes that such messages have no relation to the official activities of the Bureau of Economic Security.

The Bureau of Economic Security explained how to recognize a forgery

BEB stated that they do not send electronic requests to businesses requiring them to submit financial or tax documentation via letters.

The official correspondence of the agency has clear signs:

  • an email address with the domain @esbu.gov.ua;

  • a signature with the use of a qualified electronic signature.

Experts recommend not to open attachments and not to download files from suspicious letters. It is also advisable not to send documents or other information in response.

In case of receiving such messages, entrepreneurs are urged to inform the Cyber Police Department of the National Police or the Security Service of Ukraine.

BEB has already contacted law enforcement agencies to identify those involved in the distribution.

Recall that the director of the Bureau of Economic Security, Oleksandr Tsyvinskyi, first declared his pension amounting to UAH 318.6 thousand on March 5.
