Denys Berinchyk’s Comeback to the Ring

Former lightweight world champion Denys Berinchyk has announced he will continue his career and is preparing for his next fight. Preliminary reports indicate the bout will take place in the United Kingdom in late April or May 2026. The Ukrainian boxer spent a full year recovering from an injury and has now been actively training for the past three to four months.

Berinchyk, who won a silver medal at the 2012 London Olympics, last fought in February 2025, suffering a defeat to American Keyshawn Davis. That match, held at Madison Square Garden in New York, cost Berinchyk his WBO lightweight title. He was knocked down in the third round and stopped by Davis in the fourth. This loss was the first of his professional career, which previously included 19 wins (9 by knockout) in 19 bouts.

Future Plans

Berinchyk claimed the vacant world championship belt on May 18, 2024, by defeating Mexico’s Emanuel Navarrete. The athlete is currently 36 years old.

What did Berinchyk say about his recovery? He stated:

“The thought of retiring after my last fight never crossed my mind because the preparation was excellent, my weight was good, but injuries were there—they needed treatment and recovery. I spent a year recovering, and I’ve been training for about three to four months now.”

He further emphasized, “I resumed training last year, slowly building up, but I wasn’t fully recovered after surgery. Right now, I’m getting into shape, not preparing for a specific fight. Maybe in spring or summer, there will be some news—we’re waiting for official confirmation from promoters.”

Berinchyk is therefore planning a return to the ring, aiming for a strong performance in his upcoming match.

This comeback after injury and defeat underscores his determination to push forward in his athletic career. The upcoming fight could be a pivotal step in his recovery and a chance to re-enter the title contention. With his ongoing training regimen, Berinchyk signals a clear commitment to reaching new heights in boxing.
