From September 1, 2026, students of general education institutions in Kyiv can again ride the city's public transport for free. The main condition is the presence of a student transport pass and its mandatory validation during each trip. This is reported by the Kyiv City State Administration.
Which transport can schoolchildren in Kyiv use for free from September 1, 2026
Free travel for city schoolchildren is valid on six types of public transport:
- buses;
- trolleybuses;
- trams;
- subway;
- funicular;
- city train.
It is not enough to simply have a student ticket to use the benefit. It must be validated when entering the transport or before a ride on the subway.
How to issue a student ticket in Kyiv in September 2026
An electronic student ticket can be issued or extended through the Kyiv Digital application. The profile must be verified through Diia or BankID.
After verification of the information by the educational institution, the digital student ticket is generated for free. If desired, a plastic version can be ordered for 120 UAH, which will be made within a month.
Digital and plastic tickets have the same number and balance. If the plastic card is lost, it can be immediately blocked through the app.
If a student changes educational institution or class, or the ticket's validity period expires, a new student ticket must be issued.
Only the student themselves can use the benefit on a smartphone. Therefore, parents need to provide their child with the number and PIN code to add the card to their account after issuing.
The app also allows you to create QR tickets for travel. Up to five QR tickets are available within 30 minutes and a maximum of 20 per day.
