Widespread Drone Assaults Across Russia
In March and April 2024, multiple Russian regions were subjected to coordinated drone attacks. On the night of April 2nd, the Krasnodar region was targeted, with explosions reported and air defense systems activated in the cities of Anapa, Novorossiysk, and Gelendzhik, as well as in the Tuapse and Krymsk districts. Anapa and the Tuapse district issued official warnings of drone threats, while sirens sounded alarms in Novorossiysk, Gelendzhik, and the Krymsk district. Krasnodar airport temporarily restricted operations, diverting flights. These attacks are part of a broader pattern of strikes on Russian territory, highlighting vulnerabilities far from the front lines of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
Earlier, on the nights of March 25 and 27, drone attacks occurred in the Leningrad region. The March 27th strike targeted the strategic oil terminal at the port of Ust-Luga, causing a fire following a series of explosions. The same port was also hit during the March 25th attack, leading to similar consequences. Governor Alexander Drozdenko reported that
"33 UAVs were destroyed by air defense and electronic warfare systems."
Attacks on Other Regions
Furthermore, on the night of March 11, a series of Russian regions came under a mass drone assault. The most intense strikes were recorded in the Samara region, where at least 10 explosions were reported over the cities of Samara and Syzran. These attacks resulted in a series of blasts, fires, and the paralysis of air traffic in the south and center of the country.
