Incident Involving Oleh Tyahnybok
A hostile drone struck the car of Lieutenant Colonel Oleh Tyahnybok in a combat zone. The attack left the commander with a concussion and resulted in additional casualties. This information was shared by Senior Lieutenant Tymur Knysh, who serves as the deputy company commander in the battalion of unmanned systems.
Oleh Tyahnybok's and His Family's Role in National Defense
Oleh Tyahnybok, a former member of the Ukrainian parliament and head of the All-Ukrainian Union "Svoboda" party, volunteered for the Armed Forces of Ukraine shortly after Russia's full-scale invasion began. In 2023, he was appointed deputy battalion commander for moral and psychological support in the 128th Separate Heavy Mechanized Brigade "Dyke Pole." By 2025, he had been promoted to lieutenant colonel and took command of the brigade's unmanned systems battalion. This brigade operates on the Zaporizhzhia front line.
The Tyahnybok family has also been deeply involved in defending the country. Oleh's son, Hordiy, serves as a senior lieutenant in the 4th Operational Brigade "Rubizh" of the National Guard of Ukraine and has received the Medal for Military Service to Ukraine. Oleh's brother, Andriy Tyahnybok, enlisted voluntarily in the Armed Forces. Hordiy Tyahnybok sustained a severe injury in May 2024 while fighting near Bakhmut. In the fall of 2025, Oleh Tyahnybok reported the death of fellow Svoboda member Anatoliy Penko, a Holodomor researcher.
This incident highlights the dangers military personnel face while carrying out their duties in modern warfare. As an officer actively engaged on the front lines, Oleh Tyahnybok also underscores the significance of personal sacrifice for national defense, especially given his family's extensive involvement in combat operations.
The attack on his vehicle demonstrates that the threat from enemy forces remains severe and underscores the need for Ukrainian troops to maintain constant readiness in challenging combat conditions.
