Overnight Drone Attacks Hit Orsk Refinery and Perm Facility
During the night, unmanned aerial vehicles targeted an oil refinery in Orsk, located in the Orenburg region, as well as an industrial site in Perm. Orsk sits over 1,400 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. Dmitry Makhonin, governor of the Perm Krai region, confirmed the attack, stating that workers were evacuated, no casualties were reported, and a fire broke out at the facility. Emergency and operational response teams are currently on the scene.
Local Authorities Respond and Regional Situation Unfolds
A drone threat alert has been declared across the region. Local residents reported seeing numerous ambulances and fire trucks gathered near the Bashkultaevo area. It is known that the Lukoil-Permnefteorgsintez refinery was among the targets. Social media channels have also reported a blaze at a facility operated by the pipeline company Transneft.
Orsk’s mayor, Artem Vorobyov, urged residents to stay indoors and avoid approaching windows.
Additionally, temporary restrictions on aircraft arrivals and departures were imposed at Orsk Airport. Airports in Perm and Yekaterinburg also activated the so-called “Kover” emergency plan. These developments highlight the growing risks posed by drone strikes on industrial infrastructure.
The drone assaults on Russian industrial sites reflect escalating tensions and a widening conflict, with potentially significant economic and social repercussions. The imposition of drone threat alerts and airport restrictions underscores the severity of the situation and the authorities’ readiness to respond. Such incidents may also affect the regional investment climate and overall industrial security amid the ongoing armed conflict.
The recent drone strikes in Orsk and Perm are not isolated incidents, as similar attacks have been reported elsewhere, such as the significant fire at the Tuapse oil terminal. These events underscore a troubling trend of escalating drone assaults on critical infrastructure, raising concerns over regional security and economic stability.
