A strong thunderstorm that passed over Moscow and the region led to a serious situation - in a cottage village near Dolgoprudny, lightning struck one of the houses, causing a fire to break out, reports 'Glavkom'.
According to the Ministry of Emergencies of Russia, heavy rain with thunderstorms and gusty winds of up to 17 m/s are expected in the region until 10:00 the next day. Residents have been urged to avoid leaving cars under trees and to keep away from unreliable structures.
Residents of the 'Naberezhnaya' village reported that during the start of the thunderstorm, lightning flashed almost every second. One of them struck directly on the roof of a house on Beregovaya Street, after which the building caught fire.
'There was a sharp bang, like an explosion. I looked out the window - everything was engulfed in flames. The rain was wild, lightning was falling constantly. And suddenly - a flash of lightning right in front of the window,' said a local resident.
Currently, emergency services are working at the scene, and there is no information about any casualties so far.
In the Russian city of Ufa, the facade of a building that was previously used as a dormitory of the Cooperative Technical School collapsed. The building had been empty for a long time, so no one was injured in the collapse.
Due to a strong earthquake in the Kamchatka region and a tsunami, warnings about possible dangerous waves have been issued in Japan and Hawaii. Evacuations have been declared for coastal areas in Japan and Hawaii due to the tsunami.
