Free University Admission for Combat Medics Without Entrance Exams Set for 2026

В 2026 році бійці медичної служби отримають можливість безкоштовного навчання у вишах без складання вступних іспитів.

New Pathways for Combat Medics in 2026

Starting in 2026, combat medics recognized as participants in combat operations will be eligible for tuition-free enrollment in medical educational institutions through a streamlined process that bypasses the National Multi-Subject Test (NMT). Their education will be covered by state or regional budgets, with options for part-time or distance learning. Graduates can earn a bachelor's degree in 'Nursing' with a specialization in 'Emergency Medicine' or a professional junior bachelor's degree. This initiative opens doors for military personnel to advance their medical careers without interrupting their service.

Participating Institutions and Admission Requirements

The 2026 admission campaign involves ten educational institutions, including six municipal and four state-run ones. The list includes:

  • Bukovinian State Medical University
  • Cherkasy Medical Academy
  • Lviv Medical Academy named after Andrey Krupynsky
  • Lviv Medical Professional College of Postgraduate Education
  • Zhytomyr Medical Institute
  • Volyn Medical Institute
  • Ternopil National Medical University named after I. Ya. Horbachevsky
  • Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University
  • Odesa National Medical University
  • Poltava State Medical University

To qualify, military personnel serving as combat medics must meet specific criteria: they need official status as combat participants, a document confirming complete general secondary education or a diploma of junior specialist/professional junior bachelor, and a certificate of training in the 'combat medic' specialty. This certificate is issued by military units such as A0665, A2315, A1890, and others.

'Training is fully funded by the state or regional budget. Enrollment follows a simplified procedure, with interviews conducted online. The program is designed to allow study without leaving service: options include part-time (two in-person sessions per year) or distance learning.' Ministry of Health of Ukraine

The program aims to enhance the qualifications of combat medics, a critical need given ongoing military conflicts. Raising the professional standards of medical personnel in the Armed Forces of Ukraine can improve military healthcare and elevate the overall quality of medical services nationwide. It also represents a significant step toward integrating military medics into the civilian healthcare system after their service ends.

As the 2026 initiative for free university admission for combat medics unfolds, it highlights the urgent need for more trained professionals in the field. Recent reports have revealed a significant shortage of combat medics during frontline operations, emphasizing the importance of this educational opportunity for military personnel to enhance their skills and readiness.
