Borodianka Embraces 5G: A War-Torn Town's Leap into a Smart Community

Бородянка впроваджує інновації: Перетворення міста після конфлікту на розумну громаду з новими технологіями 5G.

Borodianka's Recovery and 5G Rollout

Borodianka has become the second location in Ukraine, after Lviv, to begin testing 5G network base stations. This initiative is part of a comprehensive community recovery strategy that includes rebuilding housing and infrastructure, as well as implementing Smart City solutions. Oleksii Kubra, Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration, confirmed the news, highlighting the critical role of new technologies in reviving communities devastated by the war. This move signals a forward-looking approach to reconstruction, focusing on digital infrastructure from the outset.

The State of Infrastructure Restoration

In Borodianka, over 600 facilities have already been restored, including:

  • 25 apartment buildings
  • 570 private homes
  • 5 educational institutions
  • 4 other public buildings

Alongside this, construction is underway on 9 new multi-story residential buildings, with completion scheduled for 2026. Oleksii Kubra emphasized that for the community, this is about more than just internet speed; it's about creating a comfortable environment for living, working, and raising children. The town's recovery is a testament to national resilience, aiming to build back better than before.

Furthermore, Borodianka is introducing modern public transport powered by solar energy. This is part of the broader Smart City plans, which also encompass intelligent lighting, security systems, and traffic management. Oleksii Kubra stressed that the primary goal is not merely to rebuild, but to establish the conditions for a high quality of life—where residents return not to ruins, but to modern infrastructure with new opportunities for development.

The deployment of 5G in Borodianka represents a significant step toward digitizing and modernizing infrastructure, which could substantially impact the community's economic development. This project, alongside other initiatives, demonstrates the concerted efforts of the state and local authorities to restore war-affected territories and create a comfortable living environment for residents. Crucially, these new technologies not only enhance quality of life but also unlock fresh opportunities for business and investment in the region.
