Bosch Auto Service Brovakar: A Family Business Destroyed
A Bosch-branded auto repair center in Brovary, Kyiv Oblast, was severely damaged and partially destroyed by Russian strikes in March 2024. Owned by the Marchenko family and operating for over 30 years, the business suffered estimated material losses exceeding 10 million hryvnias. The livelihoods of 35 employees are now at risk. This attack is part of a wider pattern of strikes targeting Ukrainian civilian infrastructure.
Details of the Attacks
The facility was hit on two separate nights: March 14 and March 22. The first strike damaged the diesel and gasoline service sections. The most devastating blow came on March 22, when a missile destroyed half of the main building, the server room containing customer data, a warehouse of auto parts and tires, and the tire-fitting station. These attacks in Brovary coincided with civilian casualties, resulting in at least 10 injuries and several deaths in the city.
Inna Marchenko, a family representative, stated: 'This is our business, which we built for more than 30 years. This is our entire life.'
She added: 'That night, a 'Shahed' drone destroyed the only surviving part of our enterprise. Now, the jobs of 35 employees are in question, and of course, our long family history is too.' These events underscore the severe impact of the war on local businesses and communities.
Rebuilding the Bosch Auto Service Brovakar could be a crucial step in supporting the local wartime economy. The destruction affects not only the Marchenko family but also the many employee households now facing potential financial ruin. This case illustrates the broader challenges Ukrainian businesses confront during the armed conflict, highlighting the importance of commercial support to preserve jobs and economic stability in war-affected regions.
