Kyrylo Budanov on corruption in Energoatom: how Russia exploits the scandal

Кирило Буданов про корупцію в Енергоатомі: які наслідки має скандал для України?

Ukrainian anti-corruption bodies have been praised for uncovering a corruption scheme related to the state enterprise 'Energoatom'. Chief of the GUR Kyrylo Budanov emphasized that the work of the national bureau and the specialized anti-corruption prosecutor's office was excellent.

'The anti-corruption bodies did their job - they uncovered and stopped the horror that was shown. They worked excellently,' Budanov emphasized.

According to Budanov, the court must impose the appropriate punishments on those responsible for this scheme, as corruption in such important areas as energy is unacceptable, especially in wartime.

'We are a rule of law state. Therefore, the court must put a dot on this issue, and it will definitely do so. My position is that those who committed corrupt actions must be punished. There can be no justifications here,' he summarized.

Russia's reaction to the disclosure of the corruption scheme

According to Budanov, Russia has launched a discrediting campaign against Ukraine among its partners due to the disclosure of this corruption scheme. There has been targeted disinformation and negative attitudes towards Ukraine through a bot system.

'The enemy started such a campaign through a bot system that further exacerbates negative attitudes in society. This targeted action is also directed at our partners, suggesting that Ukraine cannot be trusted,' explained the head of the GUR.

Budanov urged citizens to maintain a healthy global perspective and to keep in mind that the courts will do everything possible to impose punishments on the guilty. He also reminded that he is among the top three leaders that Ukrainians trust the most.
