Kyrylo Budanov's Interview on Peace Negotiations
In a national telethon interview on February 28, 2026, Head of the President's Office Kyrylo Budanov shared his views on peace negotiations and assessed the threat of a Russian Federation offensive against Kyiv. He stated that the United States has not set specific deadlines for ending Russia's war against Ukraine, indicating there is no clear date for the conflict's conclusion. This war, which began with Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022, has become Europe's most significant land conflict in decades.
Budanov noted that despite ongoing active combat, peace talks are being conducted, and he maintains faith in them.
"I still believe in them. No matter how skeptically many may view this. And I hope we will achieve success,"he emphasized. The Head of the President's Office also stated that achieving peace would mean sustainable development for Ukraine, an end to bloodshed, and the creation of a future for the state.
Ukraine's Security and International Guarantees
Furthermore, Budanov assured that there is currently no threat of a Russian assault on Kyiv:
"The Russian Federation will not attack Kyiv. As of now, there is no such threat."He also asserted that Russia will be forced to agree to U.S.-backed security guarantees for Ukraine. These statements underscore hope for the success of peace negotiations and the necessity of international guarantees in ensuring Ukraine's security. The pursuit of such guarantees has been a central Ukrainian diplomatic goal since the conflict's outset.
Kyrylo Budanov's remarks reflect the current situation within the context of the prolonged conflict between Ukraine and Russia. They highlight the importance of peace talks as a means to achieve regional stability and restore peace. Given the absence of a clear timeline for the war's end, support from international partners, particularly the United States, remains critically important for ensuring Ukraine's security and its future.
